What is the Bible?

The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by about 40 authors, in three different languages, on three different continents, over approximately 1600 years. 
 

Intrinsic Authority

When it comes to the Bible, it seems like almost everybody has some kind of opinion. The thing is, the Bible doesn’t depend on people’s opinions, it’s not reliant on reviews from critics to give it weight. The Bible tells us what it is. This is because the Bible isn’t written by a person or people – it is the very Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16, 2 Pet. 1:21). Because of this, the Bible has intrinsic authority to explain itself, to tell us what it is.
 

Validates its own claim

Scripture validates its own claim that it is God’s Word; we find in it perfect consistency, no contradictions, no changes in the essence of the message. The instruction in it is pure, loving, and perfect (Ps. 19:7-11, Ps. 12:6). It is living (Heb. 4:12), convicting and changing hearts, transforming lives in every age, not adjusting with the times or changing to suit people’s preferences.
 
Most importantly, the Bible shows us the way to salvation through Jesus Christ (2 Tim. 3:15, Jn. 20:31). What it is is the unfolding of God’s plan of redemption. Every part unveils a little bit more of how God saves sinners, and when you look at the whole, you see the grand scope, the complete picture that totally revolves around Jesus (Lk. 24:27, Acts 10:43).
